Auto Generate Sequential Unique Numbers in Field

Is there anyway to auto-generate a unique sequential number? Preferably not the GUID but a shorter, numeric only number.

  Here is one business rule example which explains how to generate Unique Id's in frevvo forms.

  The formid usually looks something like: _4mD8gLKeEeKuY8A77y_sPQ , but it is guaranteed to be unique.

  Another option is to use a Google Spreadsheet, but as you might have already read about it, it has a slight drawback.
